"Then they laid hands on them and they received the holy Spirit"
-Acts 8:17
In 2019, then Bishop of Burlington, Archbishop Coyne chose to lower the Confirmation age from grade 10 to grade 6. This transition is happened gradually, with the first, solo 6th grade class confirmed May 2023.
A student seeking to receive Confirmation must be an active participant in the Church community for two years prior to receiving the Sacrament; participation at Mass being at the core. Our goal, once again, is to encourage and support parents in their role as primary educators of the faith. Parent participation in the (7) concentrated formation classes is expected. Parent participation in other classes and activities is greatly encouraged. A student and parent mandatory meeting takes place in January. A Confirmation packet will be handed out at that time with directions on how and when to complete and return.
If an older student is seeking Confirmation, we will work to make an individual plan that best works for them and their family.
